Public toilets in Bergen: a map and practical tips

Jander Soares ·

Find a toilet in the centre, recognise the troll WC sign and check opening hours, accessibility and charges on the municipal map.

Between a walk around Bryggen, a coffee and a stroll along the harbour, one small piece of information can make your day easier: where is the nearest toilet? Save the map below on your phone to use during your visit.

The municipal map. Open Bergen’s official public toilet map. It covers central options, including transport terminals and shopping centres. Check each location for opening hours, charges, accessibility and baby-changing facilities: conditions differ between venues.

Look for the two trolls! The municipality shows a WC sign featuring two trolls to identify free toilets open to the public. It is a cheerful landmark to recognise on the street. Use the map to find locations; we have not confirmed that every marker uses this illustration, or that every toilet on the map is free.

Three useful reference points. On 15 October 2026, the municipality lists Skur 8 in Bryggen as open daily 8am–11pm; Strandkaiterminalen 7am–11pm, with an accessible toilet; and Gartnerboligen, Thormøhlens gate 40, in Nygårdsparken, 24 hours, costing NOK 10. The Skur 11 toilets are closed; the suggested alternative is Strandkaiterminalen.

Before taking a detour. Check the map entry before walking there, especially at night or if you need an accessible toilet or baby-changing facilities. Being listed does not mean a toilet is open around the clock. Read the instructions at the entrance; we do not assume card or cash payment where the source does not confirm it.
